Summer Fashion Tips for
Hourglass (figure eight) Body Types
I happen to think the hourglass body type is the body type that most women strive for. What I have found is the women I have helped with this body type fall in two categories they’re uncomfortable with their curves and want to down play them or they can’t find clothes to accommodate their curvy bodies.
Summer Fashion Tip #1
The easiest way to minimize your curves is to choose simple clothing. Clothing that pulls away a bit from the body without being sloppy will deemphasize the curves without adding weight.
Another way to deemphasize your curves is to wear a top with a drop waist. Also asymmetrical styles are wonderfully enhancing to a curvy body type particularly if they are fairly simple and straightforward. Simple tops, loose fitting gauzy tanks, soft flowing blouses with no detail, lightweight loose cardigans are all good starting places.
Summer Fashion Tip #2
Pants with no pockets are essential in minimizing your hips. Plain flat panel pants that are slightly loose fitting and straight to wide leg pants will de-emphasis your curves.
If your waist is a lot smaller then your rear and all the pants you choose pull out at the waist, I suggest you choose very simple pants, preferably without pockets because they will probably have to be brought in at the waist.
Pant without pockets are easier and less expensive to alter then ones with pockets. Another option is to look for pants that have a knit waistline. I know this might sound a little dowdy but there are some very cool not to mention comfortable styles out there. Eileen Fisher and Ralph Loren had some the last I checked.
If you need jeans look for some with lycra, they’re stretchy and are more forgiving. I have noticed after they’re washed I find the waist actually pulls in.
Summer Fashion Tip #3
Tops can be really challenging. Many women I’ve helped that are very disproportioned in their upper half are women that have had augmentation. Unfortunately most shirts are almost impossible to fit.
If you love shirts then look for some that have a lot of stretch in them and work on fitting your breasts not your shoulders or sleeve length. I have found men’s shirts are easier to fit top-heavy women in this situation. Go to a department store like Nordstrom and chose a man’s shirt, then have a tailor put in darts to pull in the waist. It’s not expensive to do that and it will save you a lot of heartache.
Summer Fashion Tip #4
Blouses are much easier to find because they’re not as form fitting. Sweaters of better quality usually have more structure and not as clingy. Look for sweaters that have a nice simple neckline and be sure to hand wash them. Wrap dresses are the easiest and most flattering of all dresses to wear for women who are very curvy
