Summer Fashion Tips for
Bottom Heavy (pear shape)
Body Types
Summer clothes for bottom heavy body types are to accentuate the top
half while minimizing the bottom half. Let’s start on the bottom since
that is the part of your body you're most sensitive about. Those of us
who are bottom heavy have a tendency to want to cover our derrière and
thighs with loose or downright baggy clothes.
Summer Clothes Tip #1
Although you might feel
more comfortable, because you believe you look smaller or at least
have minimized the girth of your rear, the opposite is usually the
effect.
Choose pants with a flat panel front, no pleats at all. The pant legs
should almost hit the ground to give the illusion of length and help
offset the size of your bottom.
Summer Clothes Tip #2
Pant legs should also have some width
to them. So flares to palazzo pants are the choices. Never wear tapered
pants unless you want to accent your bottom half, also keep your pants
loose enough for comfort but not baggy.
If your lucky enough to have a
fairly flat tummy them by all means choose pants that are low waisted
because it really gives the illusion your bottom is smaller than it is.
If you have a tummy as well though choose a higher waist pant to pull
the tummy in gently.
Quick Side Note
Summer Clothes Tip #3
I know it’s the big thing to wear low waisted pants. They fill the
racks
in the stores and are all over the net on the “what not to wear” kind
of websites, but the problem is….. When a woman who has a tummy wears
low waisted pants their tummy simply spills over the tops of the pants
and it feels awful and looks really bad. This unsightly bulge is almost
impossible to hide. Sure it may make your backside look better but it
does absolutely nothing for your front.
So unless you’re going to talk to people while facing away from them or
wear super loose shirts, sweaters and jackets, choose pants that come
up to your natural waistline and comfortably pull in your tummy. At the
same time if your tummy is an issue choose tops that end at the top
your hip bone or there abouts. Also choose pants and skirts that are
darker in color then you’re wearing on top. Do not tuck in.
Summer Clothes Tip #4
Any top style with an interesting neckline will work; form fitting or
loose in bold patterns or not, whatever your thing is. Simply choose
tops that
look like an hourglass (larger at the top and bottom with a smaller
waistline). These tops will naturally accommodate your
derrière without
a lot of fuss.
Shirts and blouses are great because they have the ability for lots
of detail i.e. interesting collars, pockets over the breast and an
interesting placket designs to bring the eye up towards your face and
away for your backside. Bottom heavy body types can get away with
bolder patterned tops in bolder colors.
One last note on tops: finding slim styled tunics or shorter dresses
paired with comfortable pants make for an interesting and
body-flattering look. Eileen fisher comes to mind when I think of this
style.
Dresses for bottom heavy body types are empire waist, wrap dress,
trapeze and bustier style dresses with fuller skirts.
